Skeheenarinky School 1858-2008

Skeheenarinky has come of age.  This year we celebrated the 150th anniversary of the local National school and one reporter described the weekend as the 'best organised, most elegant, most expensive' anniversary weekend ever seen in the region.  We find ourselves agreeing!  The book 'Hard Days and Happy Days' (by Ed O'Riordan and Karol DeFalco) was launched by Dr. Garret Fitzgerald on the Friday night in conjunction with the opening of the Skeheenarinky School Museum which was ably put together by Imelda Hyland. That evening saw an estimated 700 people attending in the school grounds.

  Galty Cottage Skeheenarinky

This is 'Galty Cottage' and used to be the Skeheenarinky Teacher's house. It is known locally as 'Morrisseys' after Mrs. Morrissey who taught at the school and lived in this house with her family for almost fifty years. The house, like the school, is 150 years old and is marked as 'Galty Cottage' on early  Ordnance Survey maps.
